8th Annual “Performing for Social Justice” Poetry & Music Contest

November 16, 2017 5 – 8:30 p.m.

Participants are invited to perform a poem, a song, or an instrumental piece (original creation or existing piece) in French or English to reflect the meaning in their lives of world equality. Specifically, participants will explore themes of peace and justice. Performances will take place on November 16th for over 100 high school and college students from the Rochester area.

The event’s keynote speaker will be Ariane Baer Harper who is a writer, translator, and director of global engagement as well as a teacher of French at Allendale-Columbia High School. She will speak on The Power of Words in the French-Speaking World. The November event will also feature a performance by the French-American Choir of Rochester, and introductory remarks from Mireille Le Breton, professor of Francophone Studies, and Nuala Boyle, director of Civic Engagement at Nazareth. Nazareth students studying French will join our Lady of Mercy School for Young Women to introduce the guest speaker and share about their service-learning project.
