Guest Pianist Lecture Recital: Dr. Michiko Saiki

April 3, 2019 1 – 2 p.m.

The Vocalizing Pianist: Voices of Women
Voices of Women is a project in which pianist Michiko Saiki collaborates with female-identified composers to create works for a vocalizing pianist. This project applies the theoretical framework of l’écriture féminine (feminine writing), a concept developed by the French post-structural feminists Hélène Cixous and Luce Irigaray. With Cixous’s concept “writing the self” as the motto, Saiki has been working with young composers and creating intimate female-centric performances. This lecture will share her experience and receptions of the audience at performances that took place in the UK, Turkey, and Germany.
