Mrs. Hamer was founder of the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party\, an organization open to all\, in contrast to the regular\, all white Democratic Party. In 1964\, Mrs. Hamer succeeded in gaining the opportunity to address the National Democratic party employing the theme\, “Is This America?” an indictment of racist practices.<\span><\span><\p>
