Nationalism vs. the Catholic Vision of the Common Good<\em> with Bishop Robert W. McElroy<\p>\n A native of San Francisco\, Bishop Robert F. McElroy was appointed bishop of the Catholic Diocese of San Diego by Pope Francis in 2015. Described as \"one of the most respected intellectual leaders of the Catholic Church in the United States\,\" Bishop McElroy is ardent in his support of Catholic social teaching\, astute in reading the \"signs of the times\,\" and forthright in addressing urgent issues of social concern\, including the plight of refugees and migrants and issues of the economy and the environment. A well-known speaker and frequent contributor to America<\em> Magazine\, he is the author of The Search for an American Public Theology: The Contribution of John Courtney Murray and Morality and American Foreign Policy: The Role of Ethics in International Affairs.<\em> He serves the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops on the ecumenical committee\, the committee of domestic justice\, and the committee on international affairs.<\p>\n Bishop McElroy earned a B.A. in American history from Harvard University\, an M.A. in history and a Ph.D. in political science from Stanford University as well as a licentiate in theology from the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley\, and a doctorate in moral theology from the Gregorian University in Rome.<\p>\n Presented by the William H.
