Policies

Our mission is to empower the Nazareth Community to transform information into knowledge. As such, we have a variety of policies in place to ensure that this dream becomes a reality, including protecting individuals' intellectual rights and safeguarding the integrity of our collection through careful donation policies.

Recalls and Overdues

Recalls

When a book is checked out, it can be subject to recall for another library patron after an initial 28 day loan period.  Most members of the community respond promptly and return the material so others might use it.  A few don’t, and this inconveniences the other patron (who is almost always a student on deadline for a paper.)

Fines and Fees

You will get an email reminder when your book is coming due, and when it is late. Although we do not charge daily overdues, if an item is 4 weeks late, you will get charged for the replacement cost of that item.

Accounts with more than ten dollars in fines will be blocked.

If a billed book is not returned within 30 days, the amount due will be sent to Student Accounts to be added to your campus account.

All bills will be forgiven upon material return.  Replacement fees will be refunded if patron returns material within 1 year of the original due date.

Computer Access & Intellectual Freedom

Nazareth University does not restrict access to sites based on content or on potential copyright issues. It is, however, incumbent upon every individual using college resources to adhere to the Nazareth University Computing Code of Conduct, which includes issues related to content and copyright. Nazareth University Library supports Intellectual Freedom and Privacy Rights. These are articulated in the Intellectual Freedom Principles for Academic Libraries. However, because the library computers are in public areas, the viewing of adult websites may be considered potentially offensive by others, and therefore fall under sexual harassment guidelines. Please see Nazareth University's policy on harassment.
