Nazareth Inducts Second Phi Kappa Phi Class
Nazareth College is proud to induct its second class into the College’s chapter of Phi Kappa Phi—the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline honor society. The students eligible for induction have been personally invited, and a special ceremony is set for March 28 at 4:30 p.m. in the Shults Center Forum on campus. Students have until March 2 to reply to the invitation.
"As the first Student Vice President for the Nazareth College Chapter of Phi Kappa Phi (PKP), I strongly encourage all those invited to accept this great opportunity into one of the nation's most prestigious honor societies” says Megan Morrison, a junior physical therapy major. “Belonging to PKP gives hard working students the validation they have earned from their dedication and love of learning."
Phi Kappa Phi established its Nazareth College chapter on January 9, 2013, during a ceremonial installation. Nazareth College became the 320th chapter of Phi Kappa Phi, which was founded in 1897 at the University of Maine.
The Society’s mission is “to recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others.” Membership in Phi Kappa Phi is by invitation only to the top 7.5 percent of juniors and the top 10 percent of seniors and graduate students, along with faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.
Each year, approximately 32,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni are initiated into the Society, which has chapters on more than 300 campuses in the United States, Puerto Rico and the Philippines. Some of the organization’s more notable members include former President Jimmy Carter, NASA astronaut Wendy Lawrence, novelist David Baldacci and YouTube cofounder Chad Hurley.
