Rodriguez Speaks on Latina(O) Perspectives and Liberation Theology, March 20-21

Theologian and professor Jeanette Rodriguez will be presenting Identity, Faith, and Resistance: A Latina(o) Perspective on Thursday, March 20 at 7:00 p.m. in the Forum of the Otto A. Shults Community Center. Rodriguez will also present Liberation Theology: The Next Generation on Friday, March 21 at 1:30 p.m. in the Linehan Chapel of the Golisano Academic Center. These lectures are sponsored by the William H. Shannon Chair in Catholic Studies at Nazareth College. Both lectures are free and open to the public. Jeanette Rodriguez teaches at Seattle University in the department of Theology and Religious Studies, in the Women and Gender Studies program, and in the Graduate School of Theology and Ministry. She founded the Center for the Study of Justice and Society at the university. Through her work, Rodriguez explores theologies of liberation, U.S. Hispanic theology, peacemaking, and genocide studies.

Over the past 20 years, Rodriguez has published books and articles along with collecting women’s stories about cultural memories and identities. She works with women in specific communities, including Mayan women in Chiapas, Mexico, and Christian communities in El Salvador and in the Yaqui community of Arizona, to preserve their cultural experiences.
