Nazareth Welcomes Pedro Noguera on April 3

Nazareth College’s School of Education and the Frontier Center for Urban Education are proud to present Pedro Noguera, as the Center’s sixth annual lecturer. Noguera’s presentation, Keeping Students Engaged, will take place on Thursday, April 3 at 4:15 p.m. in Room A14 of the Nazareth College Arts Center, located at 4245 East Avenue, Rochester, N.Y. 14618.  Noguera, professor in the Steinhardt School of Education at New York University, is a sociologist whose scholarship and research focuses on the ways in which schools are influenced by social and economic conditions in the context of an urban environment. He is a prolific author whose work includes books The Trouble with Black Boys and Other Reflections on Race, Equity, and the Future of Public Education; City Schools and the American Dream and The Imperatives of Power.

Noguera is the executive director of the Metropolitan Center for Urban Education and the co-director of the Institute for the Study of Globalization and Education in Metropolitan Settings (IGEMS). He is the past appointee of the Governor of New York to the State University of New York (SUNY) Board of Trustees. Noguera is a regular commentator on education issues on CNN, MSNBC, National Public Radio, and other national news outlets.
