Published November 17, 2015

Timothy Young has been named the new director of Campus Safety at Nazareth College. He brings 23 years of law enforcement experience and 11 years of higher education experience to his new role. Young is scheduled to start on December 2.

“I feel honored to be selected for this important position at Nazareth College, where I will join a team of dedicated Campus Safety professionals that have built a solid foundation of providing quality services and programming to the campus community,” said Young. “My community outreach approach to campus safety will build upon the services and programming already in place and will provide opportunities of involvement for the entire campus community. During my visit to campus I found a community that is student-focused, family-oriented, and a welcoming environment, something that I highly value and appreciate.”

Young most recently served as the director of Housing Security and Safety Services at the University of Michigan and was previously the director of Campus Security at Kalamazoo College in Michigan.

He worked for many years for the Michigan Department of State Police, reaching the rank of first lieutenant and post commander. Young also served as a military police officer in the U.S. Army.

Young earned his bachelor’s degree in Management and Organizational Development from Spring Arbor College in Spring Arbor, Michigan. He has completed a number of specialized training courses in his field.

Nazareth College maintains a full-time, 24-hour department of Campus Safety. All uniformed officers are registered guards in accordance with the New York State Security Guard Act and provide foot and vehicle patrols of all residence halls, academic buildings, and campus parking areas. All officers are trained in crisis intervention, emergency response procedures, fire safety, first aid, CPR, and Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). Campus safety is responsible for identifying prevention programs and strategies to support a safe and secure academic environment. The department also maintains a strong commitment to supporting the educational goals of the campus community. In doing so, the department seeks to preserve an environment where diverse social, cultural, and academic values are allowed to develop and prosper.
