Patricia Groves Receives National Art Education Leadership Award

Nazareth College art educator Patricia (Pat) Groves, of North Chili, N.Y., has been awarded the 2016 Marion Quin Dix Leadership Award from the National Art Education Association (NAEA). She received the award in Chicago on March 18, 2016 at the NAEA National Convention. Groves was nominated for the award by educators/leaders of the New York State Art Teachers Association (NYSATA) because of her outstanding work in the field of art education. She served as President of NYSATA for two years and continues to serve the association as a conference coordinator, layout and design editor for NYSATA News, and as a NYSATA Promotions Chair.

She is currently an adjunct professor in the Art Education Department at Nazareth College. She teaches multiple visual art studio courses and serves as an advisor for art education student teachers. Before joining the Art Education Department, Groves was a public school art educator for 32 years, working with grades K-12 at Brockport Central School District. She has also taught at Genesee-Wyoming BOCES, Alexander, and Elba, N.Y. Groves is an alumna of Buffalo State College and Nazareth College.

The Marion Quin Dix Leadership Award is presented in honor of NAEA’s third resident, Marion Quin Dix in recognition of her pioneer work in the development of NAEA as a national, professional organization. This award is given to recognize outstanding contributions and service to the profession by a current or past State/Province Association officer in the performance and/or development of specific programs, goals, or activities at the State/Province Association level.
