Nazareth Student First in School's History to Receive Phi Kappa Phi Grant
Elizabeth Stokesberry ‘17, is the first in Nazareth College’s history to receive the Study Abroad Grant from Phi Kappa Phi, a national honor society recognizing undergraduate academic excellence across all disciplines.
The grant awards 75 students per year with $1,000 to help support undergraduates as they seek knowledge and experience in their academic fields by studying abroad. Applicants must have a GPA above 3.75 to be considered.
Stokesberry, a senior social work student, will travel to Kerala, India this winter with the social work department. Nazareth students will partner with their southern Indian counterparts from the Rajagiri College of Social Sciences in Kochi to discuss and explore the history and role of social work in India with a specific focus on the role and rights of women in Indian culture. Together, they will attend the International Conference on Healthy Aging and Mental Health as well as visit local hospitals, orphanages, and nursing homes to learn about how social issues, particularly those of aging and mental health, are managed in India through both governmental and non-governmental initiatives.
Nazareth has an extensive study abroad program sending students from sophomores to graduate students of all majors to over two dozen countries. Partnerships with over 80 colleges and universities worldwide give students the freedom to choose the perfect fit for them. With the goal of promoting global awareness, knowledge, and understanding, programs capture an infinite range of interests from a one week trip for graduate students to explore creative arts therapy in Sweden, to a semester long immersion program in China, to a summer internship for pre-medical students in Chile. Nazareth’s Center for International Education provides students with opportunities they’ve never even dreamed of.
