THE PERFORMANCE

Ailey II is universally renowned for merging the spirit and energy of the country's best young dance talent with the passion and creative vision of today's most outstanding emerging choreographers. Under the direction of artistic director Troy Powell, Ailey II is one of the most popular dance companies in the country, combining a rigorous touring schedule with extensive community outreach programs in keeping with Alvin Ailey’s pioneering mission to establish an extended cultural community that provides dance performances, training, and community programs to all.

The company’s Arts Center performance will include Ailey’s signature masterpiece, Revelations. Since its creation in 1960, Revelationshas enraptured audiences all over the world with the perfect blend of reverent grace and spiritual elation. The piece pays homage to and reflects the cultural heritage of the African American, what Ailey thought of as one of America’s richest treasures—“sometimes sorrowful, sometimes jubilant, but always hopeful.”

The evening will also include performances of Gêmeos by Jamar Roberts, In & Out by Jean Emile, and Something Tangible by Ray Mercer.

This season, six new dancers—Tara Bellardini, Khalia Campbell, Yazzmeen Laidler, Jessica Amber Pinkett, Martell Ruffin, and Christopher R. Wilson—join the returning members.

Company members will also offer a master class for Nazareth College dance students.
