Nazareth College Music Department and University of Rochester Skalny Center to welcome Il Giardino d'Amore Baroque Orchestra on Tuesday, October 25

The Nazareth College Music Department, in collaboration with the Skalny Center for Polish and Central European Studies at the University of Rochester, is pleased to welcome back Poland's acclaimed Il Giardino d'Amore Baroque Chamber Orchestra. The orchestra's performance at Nazareth College, entitled The Heart of Europe, will take place in the Linehan Chapel on Tuesday, October 25, 2016, at 7: 30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

Il Giardino d'Amore's The Heart of Europe will feature masterpieces of Polish Renaissance Music in celebration of  the 1050th anniversary of the Baptism of Poland. The concert will also showcase the Nazareth College Chamber Singers, directed by Dr. Mark Zeigler, as well as the world premiere performance of Nazareth faculty Dr. Octavio Vazquez's composition, Gaude.

Founded in 2011 by violinist Stefan Plewniak, Il Giardino d'Amore is made up of outstanding young chamber musicians and vocalists from Poland, Italy, Spain, and France playing historically informed early music from the 17th and 18th centuries on Boroque instruments. The orchestra has recorded four CDs, and its main area of interest is Italian Music and its corelation with the human voice. Il Giardino d'Amore has performed on renowned opera and concert stages, as well as prestigious music festivals throughout Europe and North America, including the Bach Festival in Vienna and the Early Music Festival in New York City.

This is the third visit to Rochester by this acclaimed Baroque orchestra, now in the midst of a one-month North America tour. Their Rocheste concerts are presented in partnership with the Polish Cultural Institute New York, Skalny Center for Polish and Central European Studies at the University of Rochester.
