How to support your new Nazareth student

You play an important role in your student's college success, and there are a number of ways you can support their transition.

Review your student's orientation requirements for the onboarding Moodle course and on-campus orientation; help them make a plan to participate.
Review the information and resources on this page and take advantage of Family and Supporter Orientation events such as the resource fair and walking tour to meet the staff and get your questions answered.
Take advantage and participate in summer #NazBound events
If your student will be living on campus, encourage your student to review what to pack and what’s not allowed.
Review the Health & Counseling website, including all new student immunization requirements, and help your student gather the required information.
Help your student answer common questions about their start at Nazareth: review the new student FAQ page.
Encourage your student to stay up-to-date on information through *NazBound News and weekly orientation text messages.

Encourage your student to follow various Nazareth social media accounts - residence halls, clubs, academic departments and various offices have their own accounts (Instagram, TikTok) where students can learn more about what is going on around campus.
If your student might/will seek an On-Campus student job, make sure they bring appropriate identification for Payroll.

Quick Tips

The transition from high school to college can be as challenging for family members and supporters as for students. Here are a few quick tips to help:

Ask “how can I help?” – this approach lets them take responsibility for problem-solving, and is a reminder that you want to help in the process – not solve the problem for them
Encourage your student to attend events and get to know their peers. Their first year seminar and Academic & College Success (ACS) class is a great way to meet folks who are also new to campus.
When a concern arrives, have your student advocate for themselves! It can be a quicker process when we hear directly from or meet with the student in person.
Avoid avoiding! Many aspects of this process can be hard and scary (as well as exciting!). The sooner students face these fears independently, the quicker they will develop a sense of mastery and competence that can reduce their anxiety in the future.

When is move-in?

Move-in for new residents is Wednesday, August 23 from 8:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.

How do we enter campus to check-in?

Enter Campus at the traffic light on East Ave. onto South Campus Drive. There will be signs and we will direct you from there!
