Campus Life

Campus Safety

Nazareth's campus is friendly and secure. To make sure it stays that way, we maintain a full-time, 24-hours-a-day Campus Safety Department. All uniformed officers are registered security guards in accordance with the New York State Guard Act and provide vehicle, bike and foot patrols of all academic buildings, campus parking areas, and residence halls. All officers are trained in emergency response procedures, first aid, CPR/AED use, and crisis intervention.

We have a number of ways to keep you safe and sound, including:

Security Escort System

Nazareth is one of three college campuses in New York to offer the Security Escort System, a keychain-style transmitter that alerts Campus Safety for immediate response to any request for emergency assistance.

Here's how it works: If a student finds himself or herself in distress, he or she can activate a duress alarm that emits a loud campus-wide sound. Then, a connected GPS (Global Positioning System) will identify the student and Campus Safety will track his or her location. The transmitter is free for every Nazareth student and employee. Blue Light Phones

Blue light courtesy phones are strategically located throughout the campus. These phones directly dial the Campus Safety Office and indicate the caller's exact location to the dispatcher.

Educational and Prevention Programming

Educational and prevention programming covers topics such as sexual assault, crime prevention, drug and alcohol awareness, environmental health, and fire safety.

NazAlert, an emergency notification system, communicates important information in minutes via text messaging, cell phones, email, and other devices to students, faculty, and staff located on and off campus at any hour of the day or night. Learn more »

Emergency notifications and transports, vehicle lockouts and jump starts for stranded motorists, and a campus escort service are all provided by Campus Safety personnel. A campus shuttle provides free service.

The NazCard identifies you as a member of the Nazareth College community. It's used as a debit card for Food Service, Bookstore, and vending machine purchases. It's also used in the library and for access to residence halls, the Fitness Center, and some computer labs, so be sure to carry it with you. Learn more »
