Nazareth tennis standouts Alison Tepas ’14 and Alex Vizgaitis ’13 each were chosen as first-team Empire 8 Conference all-stars for 2012. The teams were selected through voting by the league’s head coaches. Tepas and Vizgaitis were first-team selections in both singles and doubles. Christine Cary ’13 made second team for singles and Ami Petosa ’16 made honorable mention for singles.
Tepas, a junior from Orchard Park, N.Y. and a graduate of Orchard Park High School, made first team in singles for the third year in a row. She went 10-7 overall at first singles, including 6-1 in Empire 8 matches. Tepas also was honored as E8 Player of the Week in October. In teaming with Vizgaitis at first doubles, the tandem went 7-0 in conference play and 13-5 overall. It was the second year in a row that the doubles team was selected to the first team.
Vizgaitis, a senior from Fayetteville, N.Y. and a graduate of Fayetteville-Manlius High School, made second team in singles last year. She had a 7-9 overall record at second singles and a 5-2 mark in conference matches. She also was Nazareth’s representative as Empire 8 Sportswoman of the Year.
Cary, of Selkirk, N.Y. and a graduate of Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School, played third singles for the Golden Flyers in 2012 and finished 9-4 overall and 6-1 in conference play. Cary twice was honored as E8 Player off the Week.
Petosa, of Chittenango, N.Y. and a graduate of Chittenango High School, went 5-6 overall at fifth singles, including a 5-1 mark in conference play.
