MOMIX brings the landscape of the American Southwest to life with founder/artistic director Moses Pendleton’s signature illusionistic style in Opus Cactus: creating dynamic images of soaring cacti, slithering lizards, frolicking insects, fire dancers, and other native creatures with a sense of danger and humor. “Inspired by the flora, fauna, and simple magic of the American Southwest, Pendleton’s ingenuity, theatricality and cunning imagination are seen at full stretch in the strange vignettes of the Sonoran desert” (Clive Barnes, New York Post).
With nothing more than light, shadow, props, and the human body, this imaginative company of dancer-illusionists has astonished audiences worldwide for more than 35 years. MOMIX has been celebrated by audiences and critics alike for its ability to present works of exceptional inventiveness and physical beauty, and conjure up a world of surrealistic images.
In addition to stage performances on more than five continents, MOMIX has received an International Emmy Award for Best Performing Arts Special for its collaboration with the Montreal Symphony; worked in film and television, including performances on PBS's Dance in America, France's Antenne II, and Italian RAI television; broadcast its repertoire to 55 countries; appeared in Imagine, one of the first 3-D IMAX films to be released worldwide; and been commissioned by international brands and the San Francisco Giants.
Like MOMIX’s last Arts Center performance in 2006, this show is suitable for all ages.
