More about the program:
So many songs are about young love, but that’s far from the whole story—for lovers and songwriters alike. Every song tells a small part of the story of love’s possibilities. Love dazzles, then it disappoints, and then finds its footing again, just as lovers do. You don’t have to be young to be swept away by love’s irresistible newness even though you filter the passion through experience and memory. The word “again” appears and reappears in these lyrics. Despite the youthfulness of so many songs, many others have an adult outlook, a sophisticated sense of language, and a knowing approach to love’s essential partners, romance and sex. So here are songs for grown up lovers, married or otherwise. We can all sing hundreds of songs in a casual sort of way, but what better way to show what popular music tells us about ourselves than through an afternoon of songs, stories, and commentary.

Singer Cindy Miller, singer/accompanist Alan Jones, and narrator Michael Lasser have been appearing together for twenty years at museums, universities, and arts centers across the country. They have a gift for turning a 1000-seat theater into a cabaret. Jones and Miller’s intimate singing and Lasser’s conversational manner draw audiences right up onto the stage. Everybody will feel as if somebody is singing or talking right to them.

You'll hum along to standards you know, rediscover long forgotten songs, and learn what the lyrics and melodies tell us about America and ourselves. The approach is anecdotal, insightful, often amusing, and just as often emotional.
