Landing a job in his desired sales field launches his business career

What's your job? And how does that tie in to your goals?

I've been hired as a business account manager (B2B Sales) in Wayfair's Professional Program. I will be working in their headquarters in downtown Boston. I have worked at Merrill Lynch, but I believe starting in sales is more what I want to do at this point in my life.

In 1-5 years, I hope to work for a medical device company in sales, where I will be traveling to hospitals, meeting with doctors, and selling the value of the medical devices and how our products can help change lives.

I really want to make a difference in people and patients' lives through adding value and selling. This opportunity at Wayfair will provide me with the training, resources, network and opportunity to learn, grow and compete in order to reach my goals. I may also evaluate a career as a financial advisor.

What is helping you be successful?

"Nazareth shaped who I am today." Among the ways:

  • Lacrosse: Coach Randall and his staff taught me the value of hard work, competition, and working every single day to get better on and off the field and were instrumental in my success. The Nazareth lacrosse community is so tight knit and is awesome. I have met so many valuable people that are very successful in their professional careers, and they will help me down the road.
  • Career and internships coaching: Dale Leyburn helped me strategically plan for landing internships and pursuing meaningful career opportunities as early as freshman year! We met consistently for 1:1 sessions as I was aggressively looking, applying, and networking for internships in the Boston area. Dale taught me how to search for the proper jobs, good etiquette when reaching out to connections and hiring managers, and the overall application process and timeline for internships in various industries. Dale also helped critique my resume and cover letter — and with his expertise, I was able to be competitive in most roles I applied to and what I was looking for in the future.
  • Courses and professors: Principles of sales and professional communications were especially helpful. Professor Michael Menard's experiences in sales and his go-getter personality made me realize that I could pursue a meaningful and successful career in sales as well. Each professor and member of the Nazareth community played a pivotal role ... teaching me the value of building relationships in the classroom that led to relationships outside and led to career advice.
  • Internship experiences: My paid internship at State Street financial services company in Boston was fantastic.
  • Study abroad: My time in Berlin, Germany was one of my best experiences in college... and taught me how to adapt to different environments while still being successful. Also, my host family was easily the best part!

What do you look forward to in your career?

I really look forward to meeting remarkable people, building relationships, and competing every single day like I did while playing NCAA lacrosse and sports throughout my life. I hope to constantly achieve success by consistently surpassing the goals I set for myself and goals by other people. I also really look forward to branching out on my own in order to build my own business. I really look forward to staying busy, learning everyday, working extremely hard, and doing whatever it takes to earn financial freedom at a young age.

What's your favorite memory from college?

My favorite memory was winning the E8 Men's Lacrosse Championship my freshman year. My favorite memory as a student was working as hard as I could to earn a 4.0 GPA as a senior (fall 2019). Memories were made every single day while I was building strong relationships with my teammates, friends, and professors. These memories and relationships will last a lifetime.

Are there ways you'll give back?

The new FlyerConnect is an awesome tool and ... something I will definitely use in the future.

I would be happy to be a mentor to students at Nazareth looking to break into the Boston job market or who are looking for advice on jobs or internships in general. I really want to give back and share all of the knowledge I was fortunate enough to obtain at Nazareth and through my various experiences. ... It is very hard to land jobs in bigger cities like Boston. I hustled, grinded, worked hard and networked in order to do so. If I can help ease this process for anyone I would be happy to do so.
