Internship: Performing as Val in “A Chorus Line” at JCC Centerstage theatre
“My professors really prepared me. I am a transfer student, so coming in last year I knew that lots of effort needed to be put in on both ends to get my technique back to where it was. By the end of the spring semester, I already felt exponential growth. My confidence has skyrocketed, and I am able to let auditions roll off my back more than ever. At Nazareth, we are taught to try not to take every audition personally and continue to believe in our individual talents. That idea has helped me believe that if it is meant for me, it will work out. Additionally, I am a person who thrives off of constructive feedback. Thankfully, my teachers here are constantly pushing me to work my hardest.”
“I learned about communication, teamwork, dedication, and strength. A Chorus Line was the first show I had performed in for 2 years, and I was super excited for the opportunity. This experience has taught me that communication is super important within a company of actors. We all worked together beautifully to put together something that resonated with audiences. Teamwork is only achieved when members are communicating positively. Also, I learned that dedication to yourself is just as important as dedication to the whole. Finally, I learned that strength can look different for everyone. What is challenging for one person might be much harder for others. Learning how to honestly respect the boundaries of others through this process is something I will always be thankful for.”
“I could not have done this without the SPARK Grant. Because this internship was unpaid, I knew I needed a way to sustain myself through the summer. I couldn’t work at my regular job, because I had rehearsals every day in the evening and on weekends. Without the SPARK grant, I would have had so much trouble trying to stay afloat. I am so grateful to Nazareth for aiding students like myself to follow their dreams.”

“The highlight was definitely the friends I have made. This year was my first time living away from my hometown in a house with college friends. I was worried that doing a show in a new place where I didn’t know many people would be challenging. Instead, I made many new friends with whom I still keep in touch. The memories we shared this summer have made my time in Rochester so fulfilling.”
