Nazareth College is now the only college to feature the mega-popular Pittsford Farms Dairy ice cream right on campus — and a new flavor blend is being created especially for Homecoming and Reunion Weekend, Sept. 13-14.

Nazareth's new Ice Cream Parlor, located in the Dining Commons near the Lourdes Hall entrance, is completely self-serve. With six hard ice cream flavors and multiple toppings from which to choose, students, staff, and faculty can become their own ice cream aficionados.

Pittsford Farms Dairy, located about a mile south of campus, has been a dairy since 1888 and uses milk from local farms. Naz Dining wanted to feature a local product and approached the family-owned business last spring "because of who Pittsford Farms Dairy is in the community," says Maureen Wheelden, Nazareth's general manager of dining. "A lot of the students and graduates relate Pittsford Farms Dairy to their college experience."

Nazareth already has been selling Pittsford Dairy milk and hopes to add more flavors of its milk on campus by spring 2020. "It's a great relationship," said Wheelden.

In recent years, Nazareth College has made a commitment to incorporate more local food options on campus. Pittsford Farms Dairy is a choice that's sure to be a hit because "most people in the Rochester area would consider it one of the best ice cream locations," said Brian McGahan, Nazareth's director of campus operations, who oversees Nazareth Dining.

Nazareth students can help determine which flavors they'd like to see featured at the Ice Cream Parlor. "There is a comment card system where students can recommend or suggest certain ice cream flavors," says Wheelden. "Right now we're kind of just experimenting and the flavors are switching out every few days. Once we figure out what's popular, we will switch them out less frequently, but have two rotating, or seasonal flavors."

The special Naz flavor for Alumni and Homecoming Weekend hasn't been announced yet but will be something "new and exciting," says Wheelden.

Nazareth alumni can check out the special edition flavor at the alumni brunch on Saturday, Sept. 14, in the Dining Commons in Kearney. Pints of the Nazareth flavor will be on sale in the CAB and Sorelle's from Friday, Sept. 13 through Sunday, Sept. 15.
