ATLAS: Your Neighborhood Gender & Sexuality Navigation Center

Mission

Located in Shults 118, the Atlas Center provides a safe place for LGBTQ+ students and provides resources to all community members to educate and better understand the diverse sexual and gender identities and experiences that exist at Nazareth College. Additionally, the Atlas Center aims to create a safe and welcoming campus environment for LGBTQ+ students and allies. 

Vision

The Atlas Center envisions a Nazareth community that actively addresses oppression in all its forms and affirms, advocates and holistically embraces people across the spectrum of gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation, including their intersectional experiences and perspectives.

Get Connected

The Atlas Center is a partner entity within the Office for Diversity & Inclusive Excellence Education (ODIEE). We offer space and programs welcoming to and inclusive of students, faculty and staff across the spectrum of gender and sexuality. We prioritize racial justice, representation and it is our mission to lift up and center trans, non binary, and gender-nonconforming voices across programming and policy efforts.

Clubs and Organizations

  • Lambda Association: Celebrates diversity and aims to provide resource information about and support for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and trans- gender community. Lambda welcomes the participation and support of all, including our straight allies. Lambda's three newest groups: ACE Space, a group for queer people of color, and a group for trans/ non-binary students. 
  • Queer Interfaith Network (QUIN): Student group dedicated to learning about and explore the intersection of spiritual and LGBTQ+ identities. 
  • Sexuality & Gender Identities Network (SGIN): Faculty and staff affinity group that supports and promotes the interests and concerns of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and trans*/non-binary  faculty and staff of the Nazareth College community by social, educational, and political means.

Get Engaged

The Atlas Center in collaboration with ODIEE and Lambda, offers a variety of professional learning opportunities and programs that create as well as cultivate a sense of belonging at Nazareth College.

  • Fall: Open House, National Coming Out Day, Transgender Day of Remembrance, International Pronoun Day, Harvey Milk & Cookie Film Series, Out For Lunch (LGBTQ+ Educational Workshops), Out of the Box (Queer Recovery Space), Equal-Grounds (Study Breaks)

  • Spring: Queering Black History Month, Harvey Milk & Cookie Film Series, Pride Week, Out For Lunch (LGBTQ+ Educational Workshops), Out of the Box (Queer Recovery Space), Transgender Day of Visibility (March)

Get Inspired

The Atlas Center includes books, eBooks, movies, and other resources that students and faculty can access and check-out. We welcome suggestions for new books or movies – just let us know what you’d be interested in. We are always looking to expand our library, so if you have literature or related materials you would like to donate, please stop by the center.
