“Girl Rising” Film Screening and Discussion

October 19, 2017 6 – 9 p.m.

From Academy Award-nominated director Richard E. Robbins, Girl Rising journeys around the globe to witness the strength of the human spirit and the power of education to change the world. Viewers get to know nine unforgettable girls living in the developing world: ordinary girls who confront tremendous challenges and overcome nearly impossible odds to pursue their dreams. Prize-winning authors put the girls' remarkable stories into words, and renowned actors give them voice.

Anne Tatarsky, the Western NY Recruiter for Peace Corps and a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer from the Dominican Republic, will be present to talk about how Peace Corps and the Girl Rising campaign are working together to bring education to girls around the world.

After the screening, there will be a panel discussion with representatives from Nazareth's Women and Gender Studies Program as well as our School of Education to talk about themes in the movie and what we can do to help educate girls around the globe.

This event is sponsored by Peace Corps, as well as Nazareth's Center for Civic Engagement, Center for Life's Work, Women and Gender Studies program and Association, and School of Education.
