We cordially invite you to a screening of "The Pretty Maid" directed by Hai Da as a part of the Global Migrations Film Series.
There will be a Q&A session led by Dr. Zhansui Yu, Professor of Chinese at Nazareth College. This film is in Chinese with English Subtitles.
Film synopsis:
This film is about a woman who leaves her countryside home and travels to Beijing to work as a housekeeper at a professor's house. It turns out, the woman works not for money but for dignity and independence as a woman. The movie interweaves several topics: personal trauma, family conflict, moral degeneration in a country of stark materialism, and the shortcomings of elder-care.
