Environmental Consequences of War

February 15, 2018 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.

War and the culture of militarism that normalizes war are paramount threats to the global environment, global climate stability, and to human security.

Guest Speaker - Professor Charles Geisler

Charles Geisler is an emeritus professor in Development Sociology at Cornell University. His work focuses on human displacement, public policy in hyper-security states, and land use policies in times of emergency and ‘states of exception.’ In recent years, his research has addressed land grabs in the U.S. and abroad, the social impacts of sea level rise, and the inland barriers to entry facing climate migrants fleeing the world’s coastal settlements.
