Reexamining the Twenty-Four Italian Songs and Arias
A Guest Lecture Recital. This presentation takes a fresh look at a collection of songs that has been a staple of vocal education for so long it can easily seem stale. The presentation will culminate in a performance of selected songs in two formats: the performer’s realizations of the original Baroque continuo parts following principles from contemporaneous treatises, and pianistic transcriptions by the late Romantic composer Pietro Floridia.
