Mission
The Association for Faculty & Staff of Color (AFSC) is an opt-in, collegial networking, educational, and advocacy group inclusive of all racially and ethnically underrepresented members of the campus community, including those not specifically listed. This association defines faculty and staff of color as those who self-identify as African/Black, Middle Eastern, Native American, Indigenous, Asian/Pacific Islander, Caribbean, and/or Latin American/Hispanic. This association’s primary intent is to build a sense of community among its members. This interdivisional association will work inclusively and collaboratively to foster a greater sense of connectivity, mutual support, and engagement among the faculty and staff of color.
Goals
- Create formal and informal opportunities for professional development, scholarship, career advancement, and dialogue
- Develop and facilitate community and collaboration among faculty and staff of color including support, mentoring, and advocacy
- Promote and cultivate the value of diversity and inclusivity in scholarship, teaching, and service in campus life and community
- Proactively implement and evaluate initiatives that advance inclusive excellence across all areas of the institution
- Advance an understanding of issues impacting the professional and academic success of faculty, staff, and students of color among the institution's constituencies and decision-making bodies
- Provide a mutually supportive social, educational, and cultural environment for faculty and staff of color
- Enhance involvement of faculty and staff of color with the wider campus community
- Create college-wide recognition to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of faculty and staff of color
