In addition to the Annual Lecture, the Frontier Center offers workshops on issues and topics related to anti-bias and antiracist teaching and social justice advocacy in education. Some events are open to all Nazareth students, faculty, staff, alumni as well as members of the Rochester area community. Other events are designed to meet the needs of specific audiences.

The Year 2 group requested an opportunity to continue meeting during the summer. Together it was decided to have a summer read, You’ll Never Believe What Happened to Lacey – Crazy Stories about Racism (Ruffin & Lamar, 2021), with the goal of continuing discussions about race and racism in the U.S. as well as to meet in community.
Viewing Party: The Rebellious Life of Rosa Parks

Based on the bestselling biography by Jeanne Theoharis and executive produced by award-winning journalist Soledad O’Brien, this 2022 documentary depicts Rosa Parks’ life-long dedication to justice. The film chronicles her childhood, her activism before and during the historic Montgomery Bus Boycott, her work for Congressman John Conyers in Detroit, and her involvement in causes such as voting rights, anti-apartheid, reparations, fair housing, women’s rights, and the fight against police violence.

As part of the 2023 Black Lives Matter at School, the fifth-grade students from RCSD Community Rise School #106 were invited to present their individual Black Lives Matter projects at the FCUE Annual Lecture, featuring Jarvis Givens.

The Frontier Center and Urban Teacher Opportunity offered a series of designed to inform and invite participation in the national campaign to Teach Truth These events included:
Scavenger Hunt Kick-Off. Celebrating Changemakers in Our Community: How Many Rochester Activists Can You Name? (Monday, 2/21/22). Nazareth students from across the College were invited to participate in a scavenger hunt designed to both educate and celebrate activists, educators, and changemakers in our Rochester community.
Pledge to Teach the Truth, featuring Naz Acapella group Fermata Thin Air (Tuesday, 2/22/22) Nazareth students, faculty, and staff from across the College were invited to learn more about the Zinn Education Project campaign to Teach the Truth and to sign the public pledge.

Cultivating Partnerships Between Administrators, Parents and Caregivers, and Teachers. (Wednesday, 2/23/22) Free lecture open to the public.
What We Need To Read With Our Students: A Resource Share/Lunch Session. This event was co-hosted by FCUEW and the School of Education Club at Nazareth College. **As an “entrance ticket” to the event, participants will be asked to bring a text (e.g., novel, picture book, article, trivia game, memoir, teacher resource) to share that aligns antibias work with curriculum and standards.
Banning Our Babies: A Webinar Addressing the Suspensions of Black Children throughout Early Childhood Education. (Thursday, 2/24/22) This webinar was co-sponsored by the Center for Organizational Responsibility and Advancement and PEACH. The webinar presented an overview of national data on school suspensions and provided a call to action to support on-the-ground efforts in teacher preparation and applied practice in schools.
