Dept. of Foreign Languages and Literatures Presents Enamorados, Feb. 28-March 1

Published February 26, 2014

The Nazareth College Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures will present Enamorados, an original, multilingual play by the department’s chairperson, Dr. Candide Carrasco. The show runs February 28-March 1, 2014 at 8 p.m., in Callahan Theater at Nazareth College Arts Center. Enamorados will be performed in English, with some French, Spanish, and Italian. The 80-minute performance is recommended for ages 11 and up.

Enamorados tells the story of Colin who, on his sixth birthday, lost his heart when his father abandoned him, and has refused to trust or love since. One day, while fishing with Celine, a tomboy with a speech impediment, Colin falls into the ocean and – in a fabulous underwater world – meets Prima Donna Nebulosa, a mute opera singer who enchants everyone with her constant games of charades; Krab Jack, a body builder obsessed with appearances; two mermaids, Delphine and Cleo; Swingy, the squid; Oscuro, the seahorse; and Don Reflejo Tiburon, the shark. Will they be able to teach the boy how to trust and love, or will he be lost forever?

Enamorados is a story about the pain felt by people who lose a loved one,” Carrasco explains. “It explores how the power of friendship and love can help overcome the pain of profound loss.”

Carrasco’s playwriting/directing credits extend back to 1968. His recent plays include Peau D’Ane (2007); Azur (2008); Abracadabra (2010); Barcarolle (2011); Casablanca (2012); and Diabolo (2013). Other projects include Broken Wrists, a film script for actor Jean Reno. He is currently working on De Casablanca a Hollywood, a one-man show for Reno, and Jean Reno a Biography for XO Editions Paris. A native speaker of French and Spanish, Dr. Carrasco received a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Contemporary French Theater with a minor in Contemporary Latin American Literature. He has taught French and literature for 30 years.
