Nazareth Professor's Literature Class with Inmates Gains Attention from Scotland

Published July 01, 2014

Nazareth is proud of  Ed Wiltse, an English Professor whose unique class with inmates at the Monroe Co. Correctional Facility called "Crime and Punishment in the USA" earned high praise all the way from Scotland.

Anne Schwan (pictured 2nd from right), a professor from Edinburgh Napier University visited the correctional facility on June 30, 2014  to talk to Wiltse (pictured 2nd from left) and others about the program.  Schwan works with students and inmates at a local prison in Scotland and wants to use the Crime in Literature class as a model for a program that she hopes to establish there.

Schwan also visited the Albion Correctional Facility where Wiltse teaches English to female inmates as part of a partnership with Nazareth and Medaille College to help the women earn their college degrees.
