Italian Women's Civic Club Gives Nazareth Student Scholarship

Published October 30, 2014

Nazareth College is pleased to congratulate Melissa Stio as a recipient of the 2014 Dante Scholarship Award from the Italian Women’s Civic Club (IWCC). Stio will receive an award of $2,700 for her next semester’s costs. Recipients are selected from all the eligible candidates by members of the Dante Scholarship Committee. Awards are based on criteria set by the committee and include academic achievement, extracurricular activities, community service, and personal identification with Italian American heritage. Dante Scholarships are awarded ever year to recognize academic achievement and promote pride in Italian American heritage.

About IWCC

Founded in 1919, the organization conducts philanthropic activities in the Greater Rochester Area and administrates the Dante Scholar Ship programs. Originally, the IWCC was established to educate immigrant women on their newly acquired right to vote and assist them in assimilating into American life. The mission of IWCC has evolved over the years and today focuses on supporting higher education opportunities for young adults of Italian ancestry.
