Nazareth Names Vitti-Alexander Coordinator of the Casa Italiana

Nazareth College is pleased to name Maria Rosaria Vitti-Alexander, Ph.D., as coordinator of the Casa Italiana.

Founded in 1978, The Casa Italiana continues to be a center of Italian language, literature, and culture for both the College and the general public.  It has a variety of Italian classes, film series, cooking classes and children's programs.  Click here to learn more.

Vitti-Alexander, Nazareth professor of Italian, has had a distinguished career of more than 30 years as a teacher, scholar, and leader in the field of Italian studies as well as a strong advocate in study-abroad opportunities for students, faculty and community members. Her particular expertise is the work of Luigi Pirandello, but she has shown extended interests in Primo Levi, the Italian Holocaust, and Italian and Sicilian art and film.

In 1999, Vitti-Alexander received the Ruth E. Wesley Distinguished Teaching Award from the New York State Association of Foreign Language Teachers. Currently, she is the vice president of the American Association of Teachers, and was honored by the organization in 2010 with the Distinguished Service Award. She is also the vice president of the Gamma Kappa Alpha National Italian Honor Society.
