Nazareth College is excited to welcome Elio Motors to campus to announce a special partnership between Nazareth and the popular American start-up automaker. Elio has taken the world by storm, with more than 46,000 people on a list to purchase the three-wheeled car when it goes into production at the end of 2016. This is Rochester’s first look at the Elio prototype car as it arrives on campus along with a visit from Elio’s Vice President Jerome Vassallo.
Nazareth’s partnership with Elio began when Music Department Associate Professor Nancy Strelau reached out to Elio and developed a competition for Nazareth students to produce a musical score that will accompany the Elio car commercial. A number of Nazareth students entered the competition to have their original piece selected for the Elio ad. The winners will be chosen Oct. 30.
Elio Motors is based in Arizona and is preparing to manufacture its vehicles in Louisiana. The first vehicle under development, a three-wheeled model (two wheels in front, one in back) with an 8-gallon fuel tank, has a planned fuel efficiency of 84 mpg and a projected MSRP of $6,800.
