DaBoll-Lavoie Named New Dean of School of Education

Kathleen DaBoll-Lavoie has been named the new dean of the School of Education at Nazareth College. Within her previous roles as chair and professor of Inclusive Childhood Education, DaBoll-Lavoie focused her primary research on differentiated instruction, social studies education, and program development & evaluation.

“I am honored to be moving into this position and to work with such a fine group of faculty who create strong and innovative teacher education programs for the preparation of the next generation of teachers and leaders,” said DaBoll-Lavoie. “I am excited to build upon the exemplary commitment to ongoing collaborative partnerships which is so critical as we work together to impact PreK-12 education and learning.  I look forward to continuing my work with our current teacher candidates and all our alumni throughout the Rochester area and beyond.”

DaBoll-Lavoie currently is the co-chair of the New York State Professional Standards and Practices Board, the convenor of the Teacher Education Advisory Group to the New York State Commissioner of Education, and immediate past president of the New York Association of Colleges for Teacher Education.

DaBoll-Lavoie earned her bachelor’s degree at SUNY College at Potsdam before completing her master’s degree in education at SUNY at Binghamton. Upon finishing her master’s program, she earned her Ph.D. at Syracuse University.

Nazareth’s School of Education has a wide range of undergraduate and graduate education programs leading to  initial, additional, and professional teacher certification.  These programs provide students with expertise and experience to teach across the age spectrum (birth through grade 12) in a variety of areas and disciplines.  

Nazareth offers specialized programs such as art, bilingual and English as a second language, deafness, educational and instructional technology, gifted, inclusive early childhood, childhood and adolescence (general and special education), literacy, and music education, as well as an interdisciplinary specialty in autism.
