George Named College of Arts and Sciences Associate Dean

Published August 02, 2016

Nazareth has named Yousuf George as its new associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. George is currently an associate professor of mathematics at Nazareth College. Yousuf takes on his part-time position as associate dean while continuing his commitment as a faculty member in the Mathematics Department.

George earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mathematics at the University of Toronto and his doctorate in mathematics at the Pennsylvania State University.

“The College of Arts and Sciences at Nazareth College is a vibrant community with a strong foundation,” said George. “I am honored and excited to work with faculty, staff, students, Dean Dianne Oliver, and senior leadership to help build its future.”

In his time as professor and faculty leader, George has always focused both his teaching and research in mathematics. He is at the forefront of a growing national movement of teaching  math education with an inquiry-based learning approach. A $2.5 million grant from the National Science Foundation will support several years of workshops, held at Nazareth College for faculty from around the country, instructing attendees in inquiry-based learning, a teach-the-teachers scenario for approaching math in a radically different way.
