The New York State Association of Teacher Educators has selected Kate DaBoll-Lavoie, dean of Nazareth College’s School of Education, as the recipient of the R. Neal Appleby Outstanding Teacher Educator Award. This award is given annually in memory of Neal Appleby, educator of teachers for 20 years at Syracuse University. Appleby is remembered as a man who loved people, ideas, activities, and teaching. The award recognizes individuals who have worked to nurture the intellectual, personal, and professional growth and development of teachers at various stages of their professional lives. The selection criteria are based on the Standards for Teacher Educators published by the Association of Teacher Educators (ATE).
DaBoll-Lavoie earned her bachelor’s degree at SUNY College at Potsdam before completing her master’s degree in education at SUNY Binghamton. Upon finishing her master’s, she earned her Ph.D. at Syracuse University.
