Nazareth Women's Hockey is at 10-0 to Start Inaugural Season

Published December 12, 2018

Nazareth College Women’s Hockey Team is taking charge with a big start to its inaugural season. The team is unbeaten with a 10-0 record. The high-powered offense leads the entire nation in goals scored with 73 in 10 games – while defending National Champion Norwich University ranks second with 58 goals scored. The Golden Flyers hope to keep their unbeaten streak alive with Friday and Saturday games, Dec. 14 and 15, at third-ranked Elmira (6-2-1 overall). The Elmira Soaring Eagles, a perennial power, have won three NCAA Division III Women’s Ice Hockey Championships in program history, most recently in 2012-13.

Coach Chris Baudo has recruited a hard-working team of 26 women from nine states, including as far away as Florida, Wisconsin, and Minnesota, and one player from “across the pond” in Stockholm, Sweden.

Baudo says his team’s attitude is key to success on the ice and off. “We sincerely attempt to arrive at the rink ready to work hard and have fun. We want hard work to be fun within our culture. We are focused and diligent in our preparation, but we also balance our intensity (to be our best selves) with an environment where laughter and enjoying each other proves equally important. We — players, coaches, and training staff — love what we do and who we work with every day. We are passionate about excellence, but more so we agree that its (excellence) definition is rooted in how we approach each day, rather than any result.”

Following the weekend contests at Elmira, Nazareth has a few weeks off from the ice before resuming game action at Oswego State on January 8 at 4 pm. Nazareth’s next home contest is against Neumann College on January 11 at 6 p.m.
