Nazareth Students Perform with Trans Siberian Orchestra

Published December 11, 2019

On Wednesday, December 18, seven Nazareth student musicians from the Nazareth College School of Music will perform with the Trans Siberian Orchestra (TSO) at Blue Cross Arena during the holiday season. This is the third year in a row the Nazareth students played with the TSO.

There are no rehearsals for the local musicians leading up to it. They do not receive the music beforehand, and any practice they do beforehand is up to them.

Junior Amanda Witherell, a violinist and music education major, told her Buffalo-area high school newspaper that her experience with the progressive rock band, known for its unique style and approach to Christmas favorites, will benefit her career.

“I know in the future when I’m working with students, I want to try and incorporate as many different genres of music as I can,” Amanda told the newspaper. She has played violin for 11 years and says she's nervous, excited, and grateful to Nazareth Orchestra Director Nancy Strelau for arranging the gig. Amanda has been listening to the group's music online to prepare.
