Nazareth School of Music earns big honors for music education

Published July 02, 2024

For the second year in a row, Nazareth University’s chapter of the National Association for Music Education, or NAfME, has received national recognition as a 2024 NAfME Collegiate Chapter of Excellence.

“Only nine collegiate chapters around the country were recognized nationally for their contributions to music education by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME),” said William Hudson, director of Nazareth’s School of Music. “For Nazareth to earn this honor two years running is unprecedented. With strong faculty mentorship from Professor Rich Tilley, our students are doing great things!”

The NAfME Chapter of Excellence recognition was developed to encourage chapters to plan and execute successful chapter advocacy, music program, professional development, recruitment strategy, and service projects. Recognition of excellent projects is conferred annually and is based on activities completed by the chapter the prior year (January through December) or during the current spring semester prior to the submission of the application.

Nazareth’s collegiate NAfME Executive Board includes: Emily Overacker, president; Meghan Lambert, vice president; Sylvia Hunt, secretary; Kara Boldt, treasurer; Jennifer Bachman, historian; and Brianna Packard, advocacy chair.

“We are fortunate to have a very active and engaged music education community at Naz, and I am proud of the leadership provided by our student officers,” said Richard Tilley, Nazareth School of Music assistant professor and NAfME advisor. “Their efforts have resulted in countless professional development opportunities on and off-campus. We are excited and appreciative of this recognition from the NAfME Collegiate Advisory Council.”

Nazareth's award was announced in June at the NAfME National Leadership Assembly in Washington, D.C.
