Published June 09, 2026

Nazareth University has named Meg Callahan-Steckley, Ed.M., Ph.D., associate dean in the School of Education. She takes on this role after serving as the School of Education chairperson and the program director of the undergraduate inclusive adolescence education program. Her new role begins on August 24.

“I believe in the integrity of the work we do to prepare teachers. We collaborate extensively with regional school partners in innovative ways to ensure that our teacher candidates get the very best education to excel and sustain in the profession,” said Callahan-Steckley as she takes on the new leadership role. “The ingenuity and creativity of my colleagues, our students, and our alumni continually inspire me with their support of young learners, their advancement of the profession, and their pursuit of knowledge."

She has been a professor at Nazareth for 18 years and has prepared many teachers in the Rochester area and beyond. Previously, she was a professor and program director at the University of Rochester Warner Graduate School of Education.

Her scholarship in recent years has focused on Youth Participatory Action Research, a collaborative research approach that empowers young people to investigate issues affecting their lives, conduct research, and advocate for change. As part of this work, she has invited area high school students to audit her Adolescent Development and Youth Leadership college course to do this work alongside future secondary teachers.

Callahan-Steckley received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame and her master’s in education and doctorate of philosophy from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
