Scholarships & Grants

  • Teacher residency programs (for initial teaching certification seekers) pay you to co-teach in a local school and provide you with a Nazareth tuition scholarship and mentoring:
  • Federal TEACH Grant - Grants of up to $2,000 per semester to academically qualified students who intend to teach a high-need subject in an elementary school or secondary school or educational service agency that serves students from low-income families. Nazareth's program list and information.
  • TOC II scholarship for teacher candidates from underrepresented populations covers up to a third of tuition and helps with the cost of required teacher certification exams.
  • Graduate assistantship: can cover 1.5 to 4.5 credits per semester
  • Clinical assistantship: covers up to a third of tuition
  • Veteran/military benefits may cover some or all of this degree for you or your spouse or dependent.
  • Dave Vigren Scholarship - Awarded to a teacher candidate who has financial need and is interested in working with children/learners from challenging backgrounds, interested in urban education, who is in good academic standing, and who exhibits strong professional behaviors.

Options for managing loans

  • Income-driven repayment plan: You may qualify for a lower monthly payment based on your income and family size through options on that federal student aid webpage. One plan — Saving on a Valuable Education (SAVE) — is open to anyone with Direct Subsidized and/or Direct Unsubsidized Loans (regardless of income level) and can bring monthly payments down to $0.
  • Get on Your Feet Loan Forgiveness: New York state residents pay only 10% of discretionary income for 2 years, if you qualify.
