'70s

Kathy Ruocco Schaefer ’71, Eng., writing as Kathryn Shay, made the USA Today Bestseller List three weeks in a row for her contribution to the anthology, Heart Stealers. Her newest work, a futuristic time travel trilogy called the Out of Time series, will be published in late 2013.

Janet McGarry ’73, ’07G, Soc., Soc. Wrk., recently retired from the Department of Human Services in Rochester, N.Y. She is enjoying being a grandmother to her two-year-old grandson Conor and seven-month-old granddaughter Evelyn.

Perri Hogan ’76, Art Ed., writing as Perri Bergen, recently published the novel Invisible Truths.

Nancy P. Merritt ’76, Hist., has a new position as the director of development at the Assisi Institute, a meditation and retreat center in Rochester, N.Y.

Donna Colebeck ’78, Art, was a fellow of the Governor’s Teaching Fellows Program Summer Symposium 2013, presented by the Institute of Higher Education at the University of Georgia. She also was a presenter at the Polytechnic Summit in Boston last June.

'80s

Terry Mulee ’81, Rel. Stu., served on the local arrangements committee for the 2013 May Hill Arbuthnot Honor Lecture, featuring Michael Morpurgo, working with co-hosts Laura Jones and Lisa C. Wemett. She is the membership secretary for the St. John’s Home Auxiliary Board and the membership chair for the Empire Friends Roundtable of the New York Library Association.

Peter Mahan ’85, Art, had an exhibition of his photography on display at Szozda Gallery in Syracuse, N.Y., during May and June. The show also featured the paintings of one of his former art students, Lacey McKinney.

Joyce Wynes ’85, Studio Art, a painter and illustrator in Charlotte, N.C., has illustrated for a long list of magazines both in the U.S. and abroad. She gave up her graphic design business, Wynes Desynes, Inc., in 2008 to devote her time to her first love, painting. Over the last four years she has been in many group and solo shows and has been awarded grants from the Arts and Science Council in Charlotte.

Frank B. Revoir, Jr. ’88, Bus. Admin., was elected as the Chenango County Court Judge, Family Court Judge, and Surrogate’s Court Judge and sworn in on January 1, 2013.

Laurie Schon Leo ’89, Bus. Acctg., became the C.F.O. for First American Equipment Finance in June 2013.

'90s

Margaret LeJeune ’98, Art, an image-maker, has had work widely exhibited at museums and galleries across the country, including The Griffin Museum of Photography, The Center for Fine Art Photography, Newspace Gallery, Workspace Gallery, Morean Arts Center, and the Cander Field Museum. She currently serves as head of the photography program at Bradley University in Peoria, Ill. Her work was recently featured on Slate.com, Actuphoto.com, MailOnline.com, and Outdoorhub.com.

Anthony Stirpe ’98, Eng., was awarded the New York English Teacher of Excellence Award from the New York State Teacher of English Council.

Lauren Kadlubowski ’99, Psych., opened her own home-based and internet business, Quilts and Gifts by Lauren.

'00s

Richard Popelka-Nicholas ’00, Ital., is the new vice president secondary for the Utica Teachers Association. He will be starting his 14th year teaching Italian at Proctor High School in Utica, N.Y.

Brian Harding ’02, Bus. Admin., was recently promoted from regional sales manager to vice president of sales and marketing at CORE Education and Consulting Solutions.

Josh Pies ’03, Bus. Admin., of C47 Films was featured in the recent Rochester Democrat and Chronicle article “Small businesses thrive with apps.”

LeAnna Watt ’03, ’08G, Eng., Lit. Edu., was recently named assistant principal of Fairport High School in Fairport, N.Y.

Amanda Dall ’04, CSD, was recently hired as a speech-language pathologist for the Burlington Early Education Program working with the preschool population in Burlington, Vermont.

Laura Harding ’05, Psych., received tenure as a school psychologist at the high school in the Rush Henrietta (N.Y.) Central School District.

Jessica Myers ’05, Eng., graduated from Chatham University in 2009 with an M.F.A. in creative writing with a concentration in poetry. For the last three years, she has been development coordinator at The Little Theatre Film Society in Rochester, using her writing skills in grant work and general fundraising initiatives. She has been actively participating in film and poetry events throughout the community, publishing online since graduating, and working on a full-length poetry book.

Laura Mancuso ’07, Art, teaches workshops and classes on printmaking at Anchorage Community Works, a new community art center in Anchorage, Alaska. She will be having a solo exhibition in January 2014 and participating in an Object Runway show where artists and designers create outfits using found and unique objects. She also participated in the International Gallery of Contemporary Art Members Exhibition in January 2013.

Rachel Baranello ’08, Poli. Sci., began working at the New York firm Harris Beach as an attorney full time in September 2011.

Bridget Fuller ’08, Psych., recently earned her M.S.W. from Syracuse University.

Cody Gardner ’08, Bus. Admin., is working as the team lead for community education and recruitment with the Rochester Victory Alliance. He is also currently earning his M.B.A. from the Simon School at the University of Rochester.

Andrea Rosenburg ’09, Soc., became a staff attorney at Dakota Plains Legal Services, a non-profit legal aid office for low-income and elderly individuals in western South Dakota.

Carole Sconfitto ’09, Art, works with the Organization Mission Year at the Star of Hope Transitional Living Center for Families in Houston, Texas, a safe house for homeless women and families and those recovering from substance abuse. Her program focuses on working toward racial reconciliation, working alongside the homeless population, building community, and living simply. She is part of an art team focusing on incorporating creativity and art into a just lifestyle. She is also involved in running a community garden at the neighborhood community center and installing a mini-library at the shelter where she works.

Lisa Nazarenko ’10, Psych., the owner and lead instructor of Be Pitcher Perfect Softball Instruction in Rochester, was featured in an article on DemocratandChronicle.com.

Amy Eisenberg ’12, Psych., is the Rochester Academy of Medicine’s continuing medical education coordinator.

Daniel Huntington ’12, Mktg., began his new job at WROC-TV / WUHF-TV in Rochester as a marketing and sales consultant.

Julia Ingersoll ’12, Eng., has joined Allegory Studios as a communications specialist in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. She will assist in supporting brand development projects and copywriting for client communications.

Alexandria Kwiek ’12, Comm. Rhet., finished her first year of service as an AmeriCorps VISTA in the operations department of the New Hampshire Food Bank. She is staying for an additional year to serve as the New Hampshire Catholic Charities VISTA leader.

Kate Mercendetti ’12, Mktg., began her new job at Clear Channel Communications in Rochester as an integrated media solutions provider.

Graduate

Robin Taylor ’89G, Edu., has been accepted to attend the Fulbright Program “Diversity in German Education” at the University of Türbingen, Germany. She has been teaching chemistry in Fairfax, Virginia, for 15 years, including a team-taught course that integrates English and social studies with chemistry. Taylor just completed teaching her fourth year at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology and is a lead mentor teacher in the Great Beginnings Program.

Audra Schmitt ’93G, Edu., was appointed as assistant principal at Calkins Road Middle School by the Pittsford Central School District’s Board of Education.

Kelly A. Zielke ’96G, Edu., was recently appointed as the assistant principal at Mendon High School by Pittsford Central School District’s Board of Education.

Daniel O’Connell ’01G, Mgmt., is now the managing director at Kelson Solutions LLC in Victor, N.Y.

Allison Berical ’08G, Literacy, earned her doctor of education (Ed.D.) degree from the University of Rochester on May 18, 2013.

Rebecca Sabin ’10G, Edu., is continuing with her current position as AIS (Academic Instructional Support) teacher at St. Lawrence School in Rochester.

Megan Resig ’11G, CAT, has been working as a music therapist with a variety of populations in Rochester and briefly in Portland, Oregon. Recently, Resig teamed up with two other local music therapists to open Spectrum Creative Arts in Rochester, which provides music therapy, art therapy, music instruction, and art instruction to individuals of all ages and abilities. Spectrum opened a new center in Pittsford, N.Y., last September.

John Beilein, former head basketball coach at Nazareth College and current head coach at University of Michigan, made it to the NCAA Championship game this year (2013) and lost to Louisville.
