Rotation Information

Each five-week block includes four weeks and three days in the clinical setting, totaling at least 184 hours under the preceptor's supervision (~ 40h/week). The final two days of the rotation students return to campus for in-person assessments. This intentional design promotes continuity of learning for the student and enables preceptors to deliver focused, high-quality educational experience with minimal disruption to workflow.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the requirements for precepting?

Eligible preceptors must be:

  • Licensed and in good standing with your state licensing board
  • A Board Certified, or previously Board Certified, PA, MD, DO, NP, CNM, or others. If unsure, please ask.
Can anyone else supervise my student?

Yes, Naz PA students may work with a variety of licensed healthcare professionals during their clinical rotation, under the direction and supervision of their primary preceptor.* We appreciate that clinical education is often team-based. Students may evaluate patients, participate in procedures, and engage in learning activities under the supervision of other qualified providers within the practice or setting they are rotating in.

*The primary preceptor maintains overall responsibility for supervision, ensures the student meets rotation objectives, and completes the final evaluation in accordance with the program and accreditation standards.

How many hours do students need?

Students are expected to be at their clinical site at least 184 hours for the duration of the clinical rotation, and no more than 80 hours per week. Students should get an average of 40-60 hours per week.

Does Nazareth University provide liability insurance?

Naz PA students are covered under professional liability insurance throughout enrollment in the program and two years thereafter. Proof of insurance will be provided to clinical sites where students are assigned. Coverage will be in effect for program-assigned clinical rotations and experiences but will not be in effect for students working in a clinical setting not affiliated with the program or in the case of volunteer work, unless it is program-assigned.
