Published June 11, 2014

Nazareth College Assistant Athletic Director and Sports Information Director Joe Seil is the recipient of the 2014 Charlie Wagner Award from the Rochester Press-Radio Club. The prestigious award is given for promoting sports on a local level, and it was presented to Seil during this year’s 65th Day of Champions Dinner at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center.

The event was headlined by former Bills stars Andre Reed, Thurman Thomas, Steve Tasker (pictured on right with Seil), and Darryl Talley who collectively accepted the Coca-Cola Sports Personality of the Year Award on behalf of Buffalo’s Super Bowl-era teams. Late Buffalo Bills owner Ralph C. Wilson also received posthumously the Major Donald Holleder Award during the event.

“Joe is regarded as one of the best in his field,” said Nazareth Athletics Director Pete Bothner. “He is such an integral part of the Nazareth athletics program, and it is his skill that truly showcases each of our athletes. We are all honored to work with him and learn from his dedication.”

Seil has worked in the College’s athletic department since 1986 (28 years), serving as assistant athletic director since 2005. A native of Rochester, N.Y., Seil is responsible for all facets of the department's athletic communication through the production of news releases, media guides and game-day programs as well as the maintenance of the athletic department web site.

He has been cited on numerous occasions over the years for his publications with "Best In the Nation" awards from the College Sports Information Directors of America. Seil also has been an award winner in the Fred S. Stabley CoSIDA Writing contest, most recently in 2013 for Historical Feature of the Year.

Seil was recognized in 2011 by the Eastern College Athletic Conference Sports Information Directors of America as the college division recipient of the Irving T. Marsh Award for dedication and contributions to the field of Sports Information. He also received a 25-year award from the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Additional experience includes radio play-by-play and commentary work for Nazareth basketball and lacrosse games.

Before joining the Nazareth staff, Seil worked as a sports writer for the Daily Messenger in Canandaigua, N.Y. and at the Post-Standard in Syracuse. He is a graduate of St. John Fisher College with a degree in Communication/Journalism.
