Nazareth College Students Honored with RACCE Outstanding Adult Students Award

Nazareth College is proud to announce Cheryl Cappon, Trevor Johnson and Jason Rivera as Nazareth’s representatives in winning the Rochester Area Colleges Continuing Education (RACCE) award.

The RACCE award is given to candidates who exemplify a strong commitment to higher education despite the unique challenges adult learners may face. Eligibility for the awards requires not only scholastic excellence, but also a demonstrated ability by the candidates to balance personal and professional responsibilities while working towards completing their degree.

Cheryl Cappon is pursuing a bachelor of science in business administration. She shows a strong level of professionalism in the classroom, is positive in the the way she interacts, and shows high performance in her academic work. As a breast cancer survivor, Cappon volunteers with the American Cancer Society to help organize and staff its Survivor area at the Relay for Life event at Nazareth on April 17. Cappon is scheduled to graduate from Nazareth College in May 2017.

Trevor Johnson, a veteran transfer student, is pursuing a bachelor of science in biology. During his time in the service, he served in the Army and his military occupational specialty was a medic. He is eager to learn and remains persistent through his busy schedule to make sure he is up-to-date in class and with assignments. Johnson will graduate from Nazareth College in May, 2015.

Jason Rivera, a veteran transfer student, is pursuing a bachelor of science in social work. During his time in the service, he was Sergeant First Class in the United States Army Special Operations Command (Airborne). Through resilience, Rivera is able to attend college full-time while also working full-time and taking care of his family. Although balancing these responsibilities can be difficult, he is motivated by the ultimate goal in becoming a social worker so that he can help others. Rivera will graduate from Nazareth College in May, 2015.
