The Nazareth College Men’s Hockey team will be among several programs that join a new hockey conference that will be called the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC). The UCHC will include both men’s and women’s hockey teams, with schools located in New York, Pennsylvania, and Maryland, beginning in the 2017-18 season. Nazareth College President Daan Braveman (pictured at right) will serve at the UCHC’s president, and Chuck Mitrano of the Empire 8, will serve as the league’s first commissioner.
"We are pleased to announce the formation of the United Collegiate Hockey Conference," said Braveman. "We have a tremendous grouping of academic and athletic institutions, and this will be an exciting time for our student-athletes and member institutions."
In addition to Nazareth, which features only men's hockey, the league will include men's and women's teams from Chatham University (Pa.), Elmira College (N.Y.), Hobart and William Smith Colleges (N.Y.), King's College (Pa.), Lebanon Valley College (Pa.), Manhattanville College (N.Y.), Neumann University (Pa.), Stevenson University (Md.), Utica College (N.Y.) and Wilkes University (Pa.). Wilkes will play an abbreviated schedule in 2017-18 and a full schedule in 2018-19.
Nazareth’s Men’s Hockey Team was created in 2013, and has since played four seasons in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference West, under the coaching of George Roll. Nazareth will compete in the ECAC West for its final season in 2016-17. The Golden Flyers' first game is Oct. 28 at home against Geneseo at 7 p.m.
