MLK Day Celebration, Jan. 16

Nazareth College holds its annual celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. on Monday, Jan. 16, 2017, with student and staff workshops in the morning, followed by a lively celebration of Dr. King's legacy from 11:30 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. in Callahan Theater of the Nazareth College Arts Center.  This ceremony is free and open to the public. The celebration will include student speakers, Nazareth President Daan Braveman, and guest speaker William Pollard. Undergraduate and graduate classes are suspended – and all administrative offices are closed – during this period so the campus community can gather together for this special event. Nazareth College is located at 4245 East Avenue, Rochester, N.Y. 14618.

MLK Day of Service on Nazareth campus, Friday, January 20, from 2:30 - 5 p.m.
The Nazareth College community will also be taking part in the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service on the Nazareth College campus on Friday, Jan. 20. Participants will host elementary and middle school students on Nazareth's campus for a presentation about the history of the civil rights movement, campus tours, and arts and crafts based on themes of the work of Dr. Martin Luther King. King for a Day Service Program, Saturday, January 21 from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Nazareth participants will attend the Rochester wide "King for a Day" service program. This will start with speakers, musical performances, and poetry slams in Rochester followed by service projects including an inter-generational dialogue about Civil Rights and the presidential elections, and community building activities with children at various recreational centers. Nazareth students will be able to lead icebreakers and team building activities with the Rochester Youth. Contact Adam Lewandowski at alewand8@naz.edu for opportunities to volunteer.
