Hockey Team to Partner with VOC for Military Appreciation Game, Nov. 11

Published October 31, 2017

In September 2017 the Veterans Outreach Center (VOC), a local nonprofit that provides services to veterans in need, lost $2.1 million in annual federal funding. The Nazareth men's hockey team will host a military appreciation game on Veteran's Day, November 11, at 4 p.m. at Bill Gray's Regional Iceplex, with all proceeds going to the VOC of Rochester. The VOC provides comprehensive resources to current and former members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families through direct service, community collaboration, and advocacy in the Rochester and Buffalo areas. Since 1973, the VOC has offered these services free of charge through donations from the community and federal grants.

"Our team has a strong interest for giving back to the community, and we're always looking for opportunities to do so," says George Roll, head coach of the Nazareth Golden Flyers, "when we saw the VOC lose funding earlier this year, we saw a chance to help." The Nazareth hockey team plans to donate all proceeds from the November 11 game through the following:

  • Ticket sales
  • Golden Flyer hockey merchandise
  • A silent auction after the game for game-worn military-themed jerseys

Please join the Golden Flyers hockey team and the Nazareth community as they take on the Bryn Athyn Lions at 4 p.m. on November 11 at Bill Gray's Regional Iceplex in support of the great work Veterans Outreach Center does in our community. Bill Gray's Regional Iceplex is located at 2700 Brighton-Henrietta Townline Road, Rochester, N.Y., 14623.
