Nazareth Celebrates International Women’s Day with Spring Symposium Scholars and Artists, March 6-8
To kick off National Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day, Nazareth College will play host to local and national scholars, civil rights activists, and artists during the Women & Gender Studies 2018 Spring Symposium, March 6-8. The events will include a lecture by Heather Layton and Brian Bailey on Tuesday, March 6, from 7-9:00 p.m. in the Medaille Lounge, Cammy Enaharo in Concert on March 7, at 8:00 p.m. in Colie’s Cafe, and Tina Foster as the International Women’s Day keynote speaker on March 8, from 2:30 - 4:00 p.m. in the Forum of the Shults Center. Nazareth College is located at 4245 East Avenue, Rochester, N.Y., 14618. These events are free and open to the public.
Heather Layton, senior lecturer in the Art & Art History Department at the University of Rochester and Brian Bailey, Ph.D., former faculty member in the School of Education at Nazareth College will present a lecture titled Feminism is a Verb on Tuesday, March 6 from 7-9:00 p.m.This lecture will include a discussion of feminism in practice, what feminism means for men and women, and the recent demands for social change through forwarding feminist movements to end sexism, sexist exploitation, and oppression.
Cammy Enaharo, a Rochester native, will perform a live acoustic concert for the Nazareth community on Wednesday March 7, at 8 p.m. Cammy is a former music therapy major at Nazareth College who performs her own compositions throughout the Rochester area. When she’s not performing, Cammy works as a youth educator for the M.K. Gandhi Institute of Nonviolence which partners with Rochester city schools to create healthy climates for students, teachers, administrators, and parents.
Tina Foster, director of Volunteer Legal Services of Monroe County will present the keynote address for the symposium on March 8 from 2:30-4:00 p.m. Tina is an Iranian-American civil rights attorney, specializing in international human rights and constitutional law. In 2006, she founded the International Justice Network, which provides legal assistance to survivors of human rights abuses and their families.
