Nazareth College has earned a silver award for being part of the nationwide “All In” Campus Democracy Challenge and improving college civic engagement. The silver award recognizes campuses with 30-39% voter participation in the 2018 midterm elections.
The “All In” Challenge is a nonpartisan program that supports and recognizes colleges and universities for their commitment to helping students form the habits of active and informed citizenship and making voting and political participation a core value on their campuses. Along with the hundreds of other campuses that have joined the Challenge, Nazareth is cultivating the next generation of informed and engaged citizens who are essential to a healthy democracy. Participating campuses focus on institutionalizing efforts to foster student civic learning, political engagement, and voter participation.
“Nazareth is accepting the challenge to generate an action plan for the College's commitment to advancing nonpartisan democratic engagement,” said Jazzmyn Ivery-Robinson, coordinator in Nazareth’s Center for Life’s Work.
Nazareth students worked on National Voter Registration Day in September to help register fellow students to vote. On Election Day, a group of Nazareth students worked as election inspectors. Ivery-Robinson says Nazareth is working on organizing other events for the spring semester.
The “All In” Campus Democracy Challenge benefits from the support and insight of a national advisory board and works in partnership with organizations such as AASCU’s American Democracy Project, Campus Compact, NASPA – Student Affairs Professionals in Higher Education, the Students Learn Students Vote Coalition, and others to advance the shared goal of informed and increased participation in our nation’s democracy.
